This picture was taken last summer. What’s interesting is that not only is this the heaviest building in the world but also the most expensive administrative building in the world valued at 3.4 billion USD. ~70% of this Communist relic remains empty and the total costs of heating and electric surpasses 6 million USD annually.
A little fun fact: The building has eight underground levels, the last one being a nuclear bunker, linked to the main state institutions by 12.4 miles of catacombs.

About 10000 buildings (with 57000 families) and 28 churches (from which 8 were saved by moving them) were demolished to have the space to build that thing. And not to mention that they flattened an entire hill. It’s just as amazing as it’s horrible and controversial.

The building is impressive, yes. But it is so sad that it is mostly empty. What is the purpose of the building if not for people to live in it?!
