Absolutely tragic loss of a very architecturally significant building in downtown Pittsburgh. Thankfully Pittsburgh still has plenty of beautiful historic buildings to inspire and captivate generations to come but it wasn’t without its fair share of casualties.
I watched them demo this building. IIRC the cost of renovating this building to meet the needs of the department store and bring it to code would cost almost 3 times what it would cost to demo and rebuild.
