Abstract: Eldridge Street Synagogue is the first original edifice of Eastern European Jews in the United States, a blend of Moorish and Gothic styles matched with Romanesque masonry of stone, brick, and terra cotta. The edifice was designed by the Herter Brothers, Roman Catholic architects of German extraction, and built by R.H. Casey, an Irish-American firm experienced in ecclesiastical construction.
