The Japanese castle pictured is Himeiji castle, which is unfortunately one of the only original Japanese castles surviving. Most of the ones you’ll see in Japan now are reproductions. The Meiji destroyed many of the originals as part of their effort to deny the samurai their traditional base of power in the country, as they would eventually abolish the samurai as a social class. Others were destroyed by earthquakes, fires, etc.
