Entrance to “Creation” from the 1904 World’s Fair. A nice example of disposable architecture designed for a one-time event. The photo shows great detail when enlarged.

Sort of the architectural equivalent of elaborate cake icing; designed to impress and amuse and then be done with.

Seeing this high res image makes it obvious that it’s just plaster, and why it couldn’t have possibly been preserved.

Pretty cool, was it plaster on a wooden frame ?

I’d love to see a collection of these. All the Alvar Aalto books mention how great his World Fair exhibit from Finland. Yet there’s only one terrible picture of the whole thing.

A thrift store near me is selling a big ass mural thing from that fair. It’s the size of an entire wall.

No idea how they got it, but the price tag on it is insane. Never gonna sell.

That thing looks like it can collapse on all those people.

I like how they are all dressed super conservative with the era, but have no qualms with a newly created bust of a topless woman.

    Those were weird times.
