Elgin Botanic Garden, New York. The first public Botanical Garden of the United States. Greenhouse built before 1802, abandoned or demolished before 1850. Now the site of Rockefeller Center in Manhattan.
it’s so crazy to me to think about how barren all land was at one point. obviously the sky scrapers weren’t around forever, but the idea of there being nothing for miles on miles in places like NYC is just astounding. I get that it probably isn’t weird for everyone else to grasp but it blows my mind
