Neither as big or famous as Edinburgh Castle, but really worth a visit if you’re visiting Edinburgh.

After an early morning flight, having dumped our luggage at the hotel we were staying at, three friends and I went in search of somewhere open. It was early.
We grabbed info brouchers from the bus stop and waited for Costa to open so we could fuel up. It was early.
I’m not entirely sure how we came to the conclusion that Craigmillar was where we should go but we did.
It was early, so early the concession place hadn’t open yet so we walked on up. We four sleep deprived, caffeine fueled twenty something’s had the best time.
We had the place pretty much to ourselves we got to see it all from basements to turrets. We ran around like 5 years olds. So much so the actual five year old who had shown up with his family complained to his father that, ‘they got to run!’
Highlight of my trip to Edinburgh. 11/10 would go see again.

Craigmillar Castle isn’t outside of Edinburgh, it’s well within the city, just not in the centre where all the other tourist attractions are.

It looks like an upscale and cool place.

This castle is fabulously preserved and the view of Edinburgh from the top is fantastic. The meeting to discuss what to do about Mary Queen of Scots’ troublesome second husband, Lord Darnley, was held in this castle. A few months later, he was found strangled in the orchard of Kirk O’Field house in Edinburgh. https://www.castles.nl/craigmillar-castle
