Constructed as an apartment building in the early 1880s next to Stockholm’s Central Station, it was altered over the years and at some point stripped of all facade decorations. It was ultimately demolished in 1982 for the completion of Klarabergsviadukten. A hotel was built on the site in 1984.
The current building. Klarabergsviadukten was mostly completed in 1962, but the building which was owned by the state railway company made the short stretch next to the building only half as wide as the rest. I can show you some of the other buildings which were demolished for the same purposes
Hotel Continental. Originally a private residence built in 1792, it underwent major alterations in the 1880s when it was converted to a hotel. It was closed in 1951 and demolished in 1958 for street widening purposes. A new hotel (opened in 1962) was built on the site, which in its turn was demolished in 2013 for the construction of an underground railway station. The third hotel with the same name opened in 2016.
Man Stockholm fucked up pretty badly in the postwar years, been seeing a lot of posts lately.

i feel so peaceful looking at this. i’m not smart enough to describe why, but just looking say it, it "makes sense." it’s almost like i can guess the pattern going on.
