I visited this Château in a 2018 camping trip and the size and detail of this giant castle blew my expectations out of the water. Inside was okay but exploring it for yourself is better than the information and exhibitions in my opinion.

On a very poorly-scheduled high school trip to France, we drove an hour out of our way to get here in order to have 20 minutes to look at it from the parking lot. Oh well, at least I got to buy a sword in the gift shop.

We spent about 5 hours wandering around, it’s huge!
My favourite part was the central staircase, it’s spectacular! It’s a double-spiral, meaning those going up and those going down never meet.

What’s the difference between a chateau and a castle? Is it the fortifications?
It seems like Chateaus are less heavily defended and more approachable looking.

What’s the story on those archways on the lower right? They seem to have been walled up at some point and the far right one even seems to have had a smaller arch inset for some time and then even that was sealed later.
