Always loved that building. One of France’s greatest generals & marshals, Maurice de Saxe (1696-1750), was gifted the Château de Chambord in 1745 for the rest of Maurice’s life by Louis XV for his valor & service to France

Saw a program on PBS about this and other Chateaus in the Loire area, and some of them were only used a few weeks at a time and then sat empty the rest of the year. Heck of a vacation cabin!
