Very nice photograph. A different view than we usual get of Burg Eltz on this sub.

Not a place I would want to call home.

Reminds me of a Lego castle I had as a kid.

I have a question about this one, it doesn’t look like it is a very sturdy building. It seems like a large cannon could blast holes through those walls. Is there someone here who knows examples of this castle being involved in conflict and how it faired? How was it built for defensive purposes?

I absolutely loved visiting this place. Funny how the castle is built upon sheer rock, was never taken by force (there was a siege for a couple years, didn’t end violently), and was owned by monetarily affluent nobles with a lion on a red background as the family crest. Sounds like something out of a certain fantasy world (looking at you, George R.R. Martin)
