Bradbury Mansion: Built in 1886 in the old Bunker Hill neighborhood of Los Angeles. Later became a guest house for silent film stars, before falling to disrepair and being torn down in 1929.
These striking American mansions always seem to have such short lifespans!

There was an article I read awhile back that posited that the American haunted house stereotype of a crumbling old Victorian mansion emerged from the early 20th C, when so many of these building were abandoned. Dark, unfashionable, exceedingly ornate, and structurally unsafe relics from the past looming over the town, it wouldn’t take long for parents to tell their kids not to go up to the old Marsten House, "That place is dangerous."

Posting pictures of old LA on this sub is almost cheating. They’ve done a terrible job of preservation in this city.

The way America treats it’s significant architecture reminds me of the way the old farmers near me just let older farmhouses fall into ruin rather than maintain and use as income generation.

Looks so crisp and clean, almost like a render or a very detailed architectural sketch. Amazing photo.

Why are beautiful buildings like this gettin neglected? Does anyone know? I really don’t understand it. Humanity is strange.

Reminds me of Sarah Winchester’s house.

Anyone know the architect? Looking at the details it reminds me of the William Crocker house in San Francisco which was a Curlett & Cuthbertson design.
