Only dumb people do this. This is pure ideology. Something most have gone extremely wrong with the mental state of lots of people. Probably a result of the First World War.

All of these "middle of the road" subway stations were gone by mid-century anyway. Boston was really into knocking shit down back then.

While I wouldn’t necessarily disagree that they’re a bit much for subway stations, I wish that these MBTA follies had survived. They’ve got so much character!
Edit: I just realized that there were two beauties here and not just two views of the same station!

Does that style of asterisk-shaped cross bars on the (windows?) have a name?

Scollay Square must have been a sight to behold back in its day. Of course they knocked it down and replaced it with a vast, featureless expanse of red brick and a brutalist beehive of a city hall with a leaky roof and terrible interior acoustics.
