Big Basin State Park HQ– Santa Cruz County, CA. Built in 1936 as part of the New Deal, listed on the National Registrar of Historic Places. Lost with the rest of the park buildings this morning in the Santa Cruz wildfires.
These CCC-built structures are each their own small national treasure. To lose one is like losing a tiny piece of the country’s heritage.

Has it been confirmed? I am still clinging to some kind of misplaced hope that it has been spared even though everything around it is on fire. So sad.

Bummer, that was a beautiful place.

Worked here, truly a beautiful building. That annex on the right side was called the Sempervirens room: just goregous on the inside with all these dark finished redwood timber beams. I am heartbroken.

We need a new new deal to invigorate the workers unions and upgrade our country. With proper incentives from up top we can rebuild structures like this and many more. We did it once we can do it again!

We visited Big Basin in February. First time I had ever seen redwoods. Beautiful place, terrible loss.

The number of times I’ve bought a parking permit at that building…
