    A few wikipedia links:

    * [Beacon Hill Reservoir](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beacon_Hill_Reservoir), especially [this view](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:BeaconHillReservoir.jpg) from the other side.

    * [Grace Church](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grace_Church_(Boston)) (1835-1865, thin spires above upper right corner of reservoir)

    * [Old West Church](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_West_Church_(Boston,_Massachusetts)) (center north of reservoir, built 1806, still there)

    * [Boston and Lowell Railroad terminal](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:2350786533_Boston_and_Lowell_RRStation.jpg) (Mansard roof towers on right).

For comparison, New York City built the Egyptian-revival [Croton Distributing Reservoir] (https://www.reddit.com/r/Lost_Architecture/comments/9dlhub/croton_distributing_reservoir_new_york_city/) about same time.

Photos like this make me realize that cities like Boston were truly *European* in their design and layout: walkable with a coherent design language, multi-use zoning, etc. Beautiful.
