    Interesting fact for some people who might not know – Balmoral Castle (and the estate, I believe) is the personal property of the Queen. It’s not like Buckingham Palace or Windsor Castle, which is owned by the Crown and passes from monarch to monarch. Balmoral in all likelihood will pass to the personal ownership of the next monarch, but completely at the Queen’s discretion as she could do whatever she wants with it as you could with your house.

    Did some random googling. The balmoral estate covers 50,000 acres. All of Scotland is 19,200,000 acres. So Balmoral alone is about 0.0026 of Scotland.
