Beautiful. I love the posts on here about bunker hill and LA around the turn of the century

This is amazing! Look at all those trees!! And the horse in front of the bakery! Pity nothing was kept.

What does that area look like now? We don’t build thing like we used to.

I made a pretty large [imgur album](https://imgur.com/a/vMeKKjp) about Bunker Hill a few months ago, if anyones interest in learning more about the area. Full color photos start at #15. Old LA was a completely different city, it’s sad that most of it was destroyed in the ’50s. Old LA was more akin to modern day San Francisco than modern LA.

I got no complaints about SkyScrapers, but it’s just fucking weird to flatten hills.
That’s a massive endeavor!

Can anyone identify the towering house in the upper right?

San Diego still has many neighborhoods with some of its Victorians intact just outside of downtown—Bankers Hill and Golden Hill are two very close analogues to Bunker Hill. Similar to Bunker Hill, these neighborhoods became dilapidated as affluent people moved further from the downtown area; unlike Los Angeles, however, San Diego’s commerical center has never fully outgrown the roughly flat area of its original downtown, so these neighborhoods survived.

Just imagine all the labor put into the construction of these homes. All the wood cut by hand.
