42nd Street Airlines Terminal (1941-1978), originally located at the southwest corner of Park Ave. and 42nd St. in Midtown Manhattan, was the first of three airline terminals constructed in NYC.

    This may be a dumbass question, but why build an airline terminal so far away from the airport? Or did there used to be another airport on the actual island of Manhattan?
