Tremont House, Boston – built 1829, the first hotel in America with indoor plumbing and toilets, razed 1894 / additional hospitality services pioneered by the Tremont included a reception area, bellboys, free soap, and locks on guestroom doors.
The Landmark Hotel & Casino (1961-1995) began as an unfinished attraction for a shopping center and became the last of six casinos owned by billionaire Howard Hughes. It would struggle to stay in business for decades until it was closed in 1990 and demolished in 1995.
